Shmuel (Sam) Ben-Yaakov received the BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technion, Haifa Israel, in 1961 and the MS and PhD degrees in Engineering from the UCLA, in 1967 and 1970 respectively. He is a Professor Emeritus of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel (http://bgu.ac.il/en/engn/ece/). He published more than 300 papers and was granted more than 30 patents (http://www.ee.bgu.ac.il/~pel/public.htm). During the period 1985 to 1989 he served as the Chairman of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Ben-Gurion University. In 1984 he established the Power Electronics Laboratory of Ben-Gurion University (PEL-BGU) that has been recognized worldwide as a center of knowledge and excellence in Analog and Power Electronics.
